Who We Are

My parents bought this farm in 1976 and this is where my brother and I grew up raising beef cattle, vegetable gardening, and grumbling about listening to Dad’s country music in the truck without air conditioning on the way to town or on most trips.

He had air conditioning, but didn’t want to run it because he thought it was too expensive because it drove the miles per gallon down. If there were several adults along we would be relegated to sitting against the back of the cabin in the truck bed. Pros- less adult monitoring of our conversations. Cons- dust from the country roads and wild hair from the wind. Thank God for Aqua Net in the seventies and eighties.

My Mom kept the farm all of these years and after her passing, we decided to move in and live in the peace and quiet of the country again. I have to admit to my hate of pulling weeds and the ridiculous ease with which I sunburn, but despite all of that I got the itch to grow flowers. Lots of flowers. All kinds and ridiculous amounts of varieties. My husband started an orchard. We are remodeling our pond. We are in transition. We have taken down old buildings and dead trees and we are planting new trees and shrubs to support wildlife. We are cleaning fences. We are dreaming and goal setting. It’s awesome. Join us for the journey of what two retired folks can accomplish together as we christen Sand Ridge Farm.
